Barbara Schmidt Clark, Viola
Barbara Clark began studying the violin in the Jackson, Michigan public schools, and switched to the viola after about six months, at the suggestion of her instructor. She studied with Gerald Fischbach and Gerald Work at Western Michigan University, and with Ronald Smith at the University of Northern Colorado, where she completed her bachelor's degree in viola performance. Barbara became a member of the Santa Fe Symphony in 1998, and has served on the Steering Committee. She is principal viola with Opera Southwest and has played with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Fe Opera, and the Denver Chamber Orchestra. Her viola was made in 2000 by Raymond Melanson of Boston, Massachusetts. Barbara lives in Albuquerque with her husband, Aaron, their two cats, a dog, and many fish. Her hobbies include cross-stitch sewing and raising fish.
