Jesse Tatum, originally from Portland, Oregon, was introduced to the flute through her elementary school band program. While in high school, she began her orchestral training with Portland Youth Philharmonic, and then made her solo debut as a soloist with the Vancouver (WA) Symphony. Jesse continued her studies and received her Bachelor's degree in Flute Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Timothy Day.
Moving to New Mexico, Jesse pursued her Master's degree in Flute Performance from the University of New Mexico, under the instruction of Valerie Potter. Upon graduation from UNM, Jesse traveled to Catania, Sicily, where she performed at the Catania International Music Festival, and later was a member of the National Repertory Orchestra. Jesse has been extremely fortunate to play with a variety of musical organizations in the area, including the Santa Fe Opera, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and the El Paso Symphony. Jesse is also enthusiastic about music by living composers, performing frequently with Chatter, A Chamber Ensemble, and is an iterant player at the Church of Beethoven and Club Beethoven in Albuquerque. Jesse began playing with the Santa Fe Symphony in 2008 as Second Flute.
In 2009, Jesse commenced a two-year role as Acting Principal Flute with the Santa Fe Symphony, and was recently appointed Principal Flute, a position she is honored to hold. Also a Licensed Master Social Worker, Jesse endeavors to bring the social work values of collaboration and authenticity to her work as a flutist. When Jesse is not playing the flute, she can be found riding her vintage bicycle around Albuquerque. She is also a self-avowed epicure. |
